Itanagar, November 20: The BJP and Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) today strongly opposed to the Centre's proposal for awarding Supra state status to Nagaland keeping in view the ongoing peace talks with the National Socialist Council of Nagali (NSCN).
According to reports, the Centre is planning to extend the status to the Nagas. The move has created a ripple of discord among other states in the North-East.
The PPA in a release urged the state government to call an all party meeting to discuss the matter. It further questioned why Arunachal was yet to react to the issue and added that the government should make its stand known to the people.
The BJP too expressed its concern at the silence being maintained by the state government over the proposal and demanded a white paper from Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.
The party also reacted over the visit of senior Nagaland Minister, Kuzholuzo Nienu and others to new Lainwang near Khonsa on November 15 to lay the foundation stone of a school building.
It is a matter of concern for the people of the state as such visit has to be done according to the laid down protocol, the party in a communiqué said adding, Changlang, Tirap and newly created Longding are sensitive districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Party said that the statement of the Naga Minister was an act of undermining and interference in the internal matter of the state government.
Accusing the state government of being a mute spectator to Centre’s proposal on supra-state body which the BJP claimed included the three important districts of Changlang, Tirap and Longding.
