Hyderabad, Nov 24 : BJP today opposed the decision of the AP government to appoint former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Nisar Ahmad Kakru as Chairman of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
Speaking to reporters here, state party general secretary N Ramachander Rao said the party is against the appointment of justice Kakru as SHRC chairman as he does not understand the local language.
"The Chairman of SHRC should be a person who understands the people's language," he said.
Justice Kakru hails from Jammu and Kashmir and would not be in a position to do justice to his new assignment, the BJP leader said adding that most of the hearing and arguments take places in local language (Telugu) in the SHRC and majority of the people with petitions come from rural areas.
He demanded the state government should re-consider the appointment of Justice Kakru and appoint a new person who belongs to Andhra Pradesh.
