Teesta’s former aide plead for re-trial of Best Bakery Case and ‘Lie detector test’ for herself

Teesta Setalvad Avoiding Investigations

Karnavati (Ahmadabad), October 13: Facing continuous humiliation for her ill-wills to vilify Guajarat CM Narendra Modi, self acclaimed social worker Teesta Setalvad has got a blow as her former confidant Rais Khan Pathan has pleaded the Chief Justice of Maharashtra re-trial of the Best Bakery case and more importantly to separately record the statements of all witnesses without ‘help’ of any NGO or person (like Tessta Setalvad).

Interestingly Rais Khan Pathan has insisted for a ‘lie detector test’ of himself as well as Teesta Setalvad to bring the truth before the Court and the society as well. He has also alleged that even if Setalvad has projected herself as a Social activist, she was never interested in plight of the riots victims. She was only interested in witnesses of the case. Pathan has given evidences that the victims were paid only Rs. 5000 and on the contrary, the witnesses were paid ten times of that which is Rs. 50000.

In a fresh affidavit (3980 of 26.09.11) filed by former co-ordinator of the Citizen for Justice and Peace (CJP), has exposed notorious acts of Teesta Setalwad.  ‘Citizen for Justice and Peace’ is the NGO of Teesta Setalvad which is infamous like her and was highly instrumental in filing various cases against Gujarat Government regarding the Gujarat riots in 2002.

The affidavit reveals many unearthed facts and claims which are serious and notable for the social and communal fabric of the society. In his affidavit filed on 26 September, Rais Khan Pathan has produced fresh evidences of how Teesta Setalvad made a mockery of both ‘justice’ and ‘peace’ and used, forced, tutored and then ridicule Muslim witnesses only to fulfill her fancy to malign Government of Gujarat and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.

Rais Khan Pathan has made it clear one again that he was only an apparatus and was only following the orders of his then Boss, Teesta Setalvad. Rais Khan Pathan has accepted that as chief co-ordinator of the CJP, he followed orders of Setalwad to visited Yasmeen Banu Sheikh, one of the witnesses of Best Bakery case and requested her to shift to Mumbai, where the trial was going on. For being a witness, Yasmeen was assured a house and support all through her life on behalf of Setalvad.

Pathan has recounted how all witnesses were not allowed to go outside of the Mariam apartment in Bhindi Bazar area of Mumbai. All witnesses were kept in Mariam Apartment under strict observation of Teesta Setalvad. Petition says that the witnesses were tutored by both Setalvad and public prosecutor Manjula Rao for the deposition in the Court.

The petition contains a noteworthy point that even the court order was to keep the witnesses at Vasava Govt hostel at Worli, the witnesses were kept at Marium apartment under strict observation of CJP. Only before the deposition, witnesses were shifted to the Govt hostel. Pathan has commented that local police was in support of Setalvad in this act and neither Police nor the Public Prosecutor ever enquired about their punctuality and where they stay.

In the petition Pathan has recalled that when Gujarat Police was searching for Zahira Shekh, a prime witness in the Best Bakery case, Pathan found her in at a well known Muslim lady journalist’s home who was working in a National Daily at Baroda. Pathan comments that the Gujarat Police could not even imagine that Zahira might be hiding at a reporter’s office. Adding to this Khan said that, “Muslim reporters were roped in sentimentally”.

Rais Khan Pathan has stated that he has already written to both the SIT, appointed by the Supreme Court on 1 September 2010 and to Commissioner of Police, Ahmadabad on 9 September 2010 in this matter.

In the Best Bakery case, 37 out of total 73 witnesses, including Zaheera Shaikh, had turned hostile, saying they had seen nothing the night of the attack. In February 2006, a Mumbai court had awarded lifer to the nine accused. Zaheera and other witnesses who had turned hostile were later convicted for perjury. Recently the Supreme Court has ordered that the trial will be commenced in the Trial Court in Gujarat only.

The petition and former confidants of Teesta Setalvad are again and again alleging that she has been involved in cheating; tutoring, misleading the witnesses and more importantly bribed the illiterate Muslim witnesses to give false depositions in Court.

The petition with fresh inputs filed by Rais Khan Pathan is astonishing and should get answers.
